Claude Wells was appointed driver on the fire engine Patricia on August 16, 1916, to replace Eugene Woodworth, as per the Board of Control minutes.
Worked as Chief's driver early in his career and was meant to be working the day of the Halifax Explosion but was granted the day off. His brother William, (Billy), Wells drove instead and ended up being the only survivor of the crew that responded that morning.
