With the development of the newly built highway 102 proposed to connect into the city via Bayers Rd, it was deemed necessary to add emergency coverage for the increase in traffic as well as the growth within the West end of the city. Construction began in 1957 with then Mayor Leonard Kitz laying the cornerstone for Halifax's newest firehouse.
Origonally Station #7, it became and remains to this day Station #5 where it currently houses a crew of 4, runs a Quint as first due as well as the equipment for Haz-Mat response for the West side of Halifax Regional Municipality.
