Mulcahy, Michael

Time of service: Unknown - Unknown

Final rank: Engineer

Associated company: Union Engine Company

From the Halifax Herald of Tuesday, August 22, 1893:

Michael Mulcahy, engineer of Chebucto No. 3 steam fire engine, was suspended yesterday by Chief of the Fire Department Ryan, and Abe Cochran placed in charge. Mulcahy was in trouble a couple of years ago for drinking, but was continued against the better judgement of the Board. He turned up at the fire at Stairs, Son & Morrow's in such a condition as to cause his prompt suspension.

The newspaper referred to "Chief of the Fire Department Ryan," but Ryan is the Chair of the Board of Firewards. There was no fire chief in Halifax until March 1896.

From the Halifax Herald of Tuesday, August 31, 1893:

Ald. McFathridge was the only absentee from yesterday's meeting of the board of firewards. Engineer M. Mulcahy of No. 3 steamer was reinstated. He had been suspended by Chairman Ryan on the night of the Stairs, Son & Morrow fire. The charge yesterday simmered down to the use of offensive language for which the board decided the suspension of ten days was sufficient punishment.
