Hoseman John J. Duggan died on December 6, 1917, when the munitions ship Mont Blanc exploded in front of Pier 6 in Halifax Harbour. He was traveling from Isleville Street's Station 7 in a  horse-drawn firefighting wagon, when he was hit by shrapnel.
 
Mr. Duggan was 34 years old, and was married. He lived at 130 Creighton Street. The cause of death was listed as: “Shock due to injuries from explosion”. Duggan’s death certificate lists his occupation as stevedore (loading/unloading ships).
